Do you like adding a few new holiday decorations each year?
But don’t want to spend too much money or time?
Then you are in the right place!
In all transparency, I am a shopper. But not like “Ooohhhh, I want to spend $600” kind of shopper. Well maybe a bit, but I’m pretty prudent about spending, too. So what do I love to do? Buy things at a great value! (Notice I didn’t say cheap, there is a difference.)
And of the greatest “opportunities” for spending always begins in August and doesn’t let go until like January.
What is it?
Shopping for fall decor and Christmas décor! Can you relate? Well… today I’m sharing my favorite places to shop at for fun seasonal décor and save some money!
19 Places to Buy Holiday Decor and Not Break the Bank
World Market – World Market is my absolute FAVORITE place to buy inexpensive decor that is truly unique. Build up your classics a little each year and then you won’t feel guilty adding one new trendy item. Whether I need a new cozy blanket or some pretty ornaments, my first stop is always here!
Kirkland’s – Have you been to Kirkland’s lately? It’s my go-to for buying pumpkins (I have a slight obsession). I’ve found Kirkland’s to be extremely affordable and they have unique items (think Pottery Barn or Pier 1) without a huge price tag. Kirkland’s also has an impressive selection of quality Christmas ornaments. This year my daughter is receiving a mini Stanley cup to remember her obsession with those things.
Lately, the Kirkland Holiday-themed pillows are Pottery Barn dupes. With a good sale, you can pick up 3-4 Kirkland pillows for the same price as one PB pillow! Whoa!
Amazon – Amazon may not yell Holiday decor, but they are slowly entering the holiday market without any of us noticing. I love the ability to order online and have the items at my door in 2 days. You all know my love of Amazon and it’s convenience. I also enjoy the selection of farmhouse style fall to Christmas Plaid.
Options, everyone needs them.

Michaels – Michaels is devoting more and more floor space to decor rather than crafts. They are the only place I visit when I need some faux flowers! I keep the same vases out throughout the year and change out the stems for each season. Each new bouquet costs about the same as a fresh one and lasts all year. A total winner in my book. Don’t forget to use a coupon when you check out!
Jo-Ann Fabrics – As you might’ve noticed, I’m a huge Jo-Ann Fabric fan. We have a Jo-Ann’s less than a .25 mile from our subdivision so it’s extremely easy to run into. Their holiday decor is cute, affordable, and occasionally allows you to DIY the last 20%. Just like Michael’s above, use a coupon for everything!
Target– Ahh Tarjay. This is my ol’ standby for impulse purchases. Thankfully the Cartwheel app allows you to scan said impulse purchase to make sure there aren’t more discounts you can apply. I love 95% of all Target holiday items, but I try to reign in the spending here. It’s so easy to find “just a few items” and walk out $170 later. Anyone else?
Thrift Stores – Hear me out. I know you might be thinking, “I’m not that creative” or “I don’t know where to start!” The hardest part of thrift store shopping is stopping to look. Once you’re in the store, you’ll find lots of opportunities. Spray paint covers everything these days. And I recommend thrift store finding for holiday decor because of its relatively low investment and you can incorporate some vintage flair to your home. If you don’t love your find, switch it out in 3 months.
Etsy – Etsy is full of homemade holiday decor! Not only are you supporting a small business, but most items are incredibly reasonably priced. When I get on Etsy, I found items I didn’t know that I needed. Mmmhmm.
Etsy Time-saving artwork hack: Instead of buying new picture frames or hanging new wall art each season, simply buy digital artwork via Etsy. Most 8″x 10″ prints are less than $3 apiece. The files are emailed to you. You’ll download your artwork, and print it at Staples or home for less than $0.30. Then, you can take your new print, and slip it in your current frame without having to hang “new decor!” When the season is over, slip your new artwork behind your year-round artwork so that it’s nearby for next year.
Wal-Mart – By adding Drew Barrymore’s line and modernizing the Better Home & Garden brand, Wal-Mart continues to impress. While the store may feel overwhelming to browse, I find that shopping online and seeing which items are available for delivery makes for a better experience.
Hobby Lobby – Do you have one of these near you? When we lived in Alabama, it was our replacement for Midwestern favorite Michael’s & Jo-Ann Fabrics. Hobby Lobby always has a coupon for 40% off a full-priced item. Pop in a few months before the holidays and be prepared to be overwhelmed with your decor options. Suggestion: They have several aisles of holiday picks, I used a few dozen when I made our wreath years ago. I’ve never seen such a selection at another store since.

Home Goods – Home Goods is a fun place to shop because you never know what you’re going to find! I like to pick up dish towels, hand towels, and pumpkins from Home Goods. It’s my go-to spot for finding small indoor decor . I don’t mind spending some money on trendy items, because it’s usually a good value.
My favorite find at Home Goods has been our giant plaid down-filled pillows. They are made by Tommy Hilfiger and have incredible quality. The best part? They were less than $20 apiece but give such a timeless look to our living room. I like pairing them with a set of $16 velvet dark green throw pillows from World Market.
Dollar Tree – I find lots of filler items at the Dollar Tree. I even made my version of Pottery Barn pumpkin filler using Dollar Tree items. While I enjoy finding bigger pieces at Kirkland’s and Home Goods, it’s nice to accessorize the items with low cost/ low investment $1 items.
Shutterfly – Shutterfly is wonderful at making photo gifts. But have you ever thought of personalizing fall decor? They are expanding more and more into the home decor space. I’m a fan of the holiday wood wall art. With a promo code, the Shutterfly Home Decor is unique to only you, and I love the options that they are creating every season!
IKEA – If you are embracing a minimalist aesthetic, don’t sleep on IKEA! Over the past several years IKEA has continued to bring more holiday decor to their stores. Not only are the items wallet-friendly, but I like the quality for the price. Don’t have a location nearby? Most items are available for delivery these days.
Jane – Have you purchased from Jane? It’s free to join and they have items marked down 60%+ from normal retail prices. If something is available to ship immediately, I like to pick up a few items that I might not find elsewhere. Each Jane shop is independently owned, confirm return policies before ordering!
H&M – While you think of H&M as the store to find trendy clothes, don’t forget about them when it comes to holiday decorations! They offer SUCH great value for adding a few on-trend pieces to your Christmas staples. With hundreds of items, you’ll find some cute items for a co-worker gift or yourself in no time!
The Best Places to Buy Holiday Outdoor Decorations
Living in Phoenix, we embrace taking advantage of the warm temps and decorating our yard! Our front yard is covered in Christmas lights and luminaries. The backyard has some fun inflatables that the kids enjoy!
Lowe’s – Each year we build on our front yard decor by adding one or two items. This year we are trying out a snowflake spotlight option. I like spotlights for those who may not be able to physically climb and trim their homes. spotlights are also great for adding some decor, but without spending the entire weekend doing so!
Home Depot – We are adding this 12′ Christmas LED Cone Tree to our front yard this year! I am excited to see how it turns out. Not only does Home Depot offer so many Christmas options, they are also adding more and more Halloween decor to give you plenty of options for decorating year around.
Costco – Costco continues to have amazing indoor/outdoor garlands for great value. This year they added multiple large Christmas wreath options to build a cohesive look for your front door.

For me, Amazon is always the best. As you know, so convenient !! However, it’s great to know others. I may give them a try in the future. Thanks a lot for sharing.
Well, Amazon is the most popular, we can find anything there but for DIY and decor projects, I prefer “Target” and “Home Goods”, especially, they usually have promotion or voucher, that help me save money hehe.
Thank you very much for useful information. People will have essential reference from your post to purchase holiday decor.
I really like the idea of ordering decorations online, even if it’s not from a place like Amazon. I think that ordering online could be a great place to save money as it’s much easier to find exactly what you want and for good prices online. It’s something to keep in mind as I want to decorate a lot for the upcoming holidays so ordering things like likes and status could be a great idea when it’s still this early. Thanks for sharing!
