Raise your hand if you’ve visited an urgent care or telemedicine this flu season.

I am determined that this year we will not fall into the after-hours urgent care visit cycle over and over again.

To make sure you & I are both well prepared, I wanted to share exactly what I am doing this year to prevent getting sick this flu season.

These ideas have some extra superpower since I’m using Microban 24 this year. You’ll quickly see why I am a fangirl.

Tricks for How to Prevent Getting Sick This Flu Season

1. Toss the bed sheets in the washer
One of my favorite ways to keep the sickness away for the whole family is to wash a set of sheets after I get home before I start dinner. As soon as someone starts feeling unwell, I try to get ahead of it and wash all their bedding ASAP.

If you know that you’re going to run a load of laundry in the night, you could always prep the washer ahead of time, set the delay so that the wash is finishing up close to the time that you are arriving home. Then all you would need to do is start the dryer rather than having to do it after dinner time.

2. Spray the mattress or bed down with sanitizing spray

Once I have the sheets in the washer, I like to lightly spray the mattress with Microban 24 Sanitizing Spray. You can use the disinfectant spray on both hard and soft surfaces! The spray goes on without any offensive odors and dries quickly.

It dried so quickly that I could make the bed shortly (post-dinner) after spraying it!

Other Areas to Spray with a Sanitizer:
  • TV Remotes
  • Stair Railings
  • Door Handles
  • Dresser Knobs/Pulls
  • Curtains
  • Furniture

3. Use a Disinfectant Cleaner on door handles, light switches, and phone charging cables

Once you have your sheets in the wash, it’s time to spray all of the “touchpoints” around your home. Think about the bedrooms, living rooms, entryways, and hallways. What areas in your home get touched the most and are likely to have a lot of bacteria?

If you’re like me, you can think of a bunch of germ hot spots!

Here is why I like it, with many disinfectants, bacteria can be reintroduced after the first touch. The unique Microban 24 technology kills the bacteria after it is introduced and provides continuous surface protection against bacteria.

In a busy house, we touch all the things repeatedly. The Microban 24 technology provides 24 hours of protection from bacteria growth on your surfaces even after multiple touches.

…and that my friends, is why I’m loaded up with these items this flu season!

Areas to Sanitize with a Multi-Purpose Cleaner:
  • Light Switches
  • Charging Cables (I dampen the towel and wipe off the cords)
  • Dresser Handles

4. Sanitize the Bathroom Faucets & Bathroom Countertops

Once you’ve covered off on the light switches and charging cables, it’s time to tackle the bathroom. Just like the Microban 24 Multi-Purpose Cleaner, the Microban 24 Bathroom Cleaner also protects surfaces from bacteria for 24 hours when used as directed as a 24-hour sanitizer. It also prevents the spread of mold and mildew for 7 DAYS!

Areas to Sanitize with a Bathroom Cleaner:
  • Toilets
  • Sinks
  • Faucets
  • Bathtubs/Shower Area (if necessary)

5. Spray Bookbags & Totes with Sanitizing Spray
If there is one thing I’ve learned over the years, the bookbags, sleeping bags, and duffles that the kids drag home each day can become super dirty. If you can, wash every bag in a hot water laundry wash load. Be sure to remove any over the shoulder straps to avoid tangling in the washer.

For the items that can’t be tossed into the washer, sanitize them with the Microban 24 Sanitizing Spray.

  1. I’ve never heard of this spray before but thank you for letting us know about it, as I’m so worried about all the germs and viruses right now so this sanitisation spray is exactly what I need to keep me healthy! xo

  2. Wow, I feel like you’re a superwoman, doing all that the minute one of your family member comes down feeling off. I wish I can apply it to ours too, and to be honest, it seems like it should be something that we should do since Covid appeared in our midst.

  3. I have used MICROBAND sanitizing spray and it has a strong smell, I had to open the windows and leave the room. Do not spray it around children and pets, it becomes difficult to breathe, this is my personal experience.

    1. Hi Barbara, oh no! While we didn’t experience that odor, I’m sorry to hear that you did. Thank you for stopping by and sharing your experience. -Brittany
